Rayo Vallecano forces Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw, sparking renewed discussions about Kylian Mbappe.

Real Madrid faced frustration in their first match following the news of Kylian Mbappe's departure from Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season. The Spanish league leaders were held to a 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano, possibly risking a reduction in their lead. Meanwhile, Almeria, positioned last, created an unfortunate record by enduring 28 consecutive games without a league win. The draw extended Madrid's lead to six points over second-placed Girona, who faced Athletic Bilbao on Monday. Despite the challenging circumstances, Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti praised his team's concentration. Joselu scored for Madrid in the third minute, but Rayo Vallecano equalized with a penalty from Raúl de Tomás in the 27th minute.
The match marked Madrid's 19th unbeaten league game, maintaining their lead with 14 wins and five draws. The absence of Jude Bellingham, who sprained his ankle, continued, with Brahim Díaz replacing him in the lineup. Luka Modric started in midfield, and Aurélien Tchouaméni improvised as a central defender. Toni Kroos made his 450th appearance for Madrid coming off the bench. Rayo Vallecano debuted their new coach, Íñigo Pérez, replacing Francisco Rodríguez. Despite the draw, Madrid remains focused on their goal to win the league. Meanwhile, right back Dani Carvajal received a red card in stoppage time. In a separate match, Almeria's draw against Granada extended their winless streak to 28 consecutive league games, surpassing Levante's record from 2021 and 2022. Granada is second-to-last in the standings, ahead of Almeria and behind Cadiz, which hasn’t won in 21 straight league games this season.
Real Sociedad, placed sixth, ended their five-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory against Mallorca, courtesy of a stoppage-time goal by Mikel Merino. Japanese international Takefusa Kubo also contributed with a goal for Sociedad, while Antonio Sánchez scored for Mallorca. Mallorca faced two red cards, with Antonio Raíllo and Siebe van der Heyden sent off.
