Vikrant Massey shares the rationale for leaving the television industry: 'During a time when misogynistic content thrived...'

Vikrant Massey is currently riding high on the success of his latest film, "12th Fail." The actor has been receiving an overwhelming response from both audiences and celebrities alike for his performance. Starting his acting journey with the television show "Balika Vadhu," Massey recently shared in an interview the reasons behind his departure from television.

Speaking to Samdish on his YouTube channel, "Unfiltered by Samdish," Vikrant Massey recalled some unsettling incidents from his time on television sets. He explained, "There were several instances that kept repeating, leading me to exit the TV industry. Universally, everyone seemed to be following the same pattern. In any field, once something proves successful, it's replicated. So, when misogynistic content gained traction on TV, including the portrayal of abuse towards daughters-in-law, it found an audience, and that's all people were making for TRP."

Massey elaborated, "There were many frustrating aspects on TV, such as MBAs dictating storylines. They'd insist, 'Produce only these types of episodes for ratings, based on our internal research.' They misled many by citing 'internal research' and demanding 'special episodes' lasting an hour. Eventually, I confronted them, refusing to comply."

Expressing his feelings of being underutilized as a television actor, Massey said, "I believed I had more to offer, but they couldn't harness my potential. Initially cast for a two-month cameo in 'Balika Vadhu,' it extended to two years due to its popularity. However, after that, I didn't find the same satisfaction in some shows."

Massey is now gearing up for roles in "Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba" and an untitled web series produced by Rajkumar Hirani. On the personal front, after enjoying two years of marital bliss, Vikrant Massey and Sheetal Thakur welcomed their first child on February 7 this year. The couple, who met on the sets of ALT Balaji’s web show "Broken But Beautiful," got engaged in November 2019 and tied the knot in February last year.
